How can The Salvation Army justify non-adherence to
the sacraments of baptism and the Eucharist
when it seems clear that the vast majority of other
denominations regard them as being
an intrinsic part of the Christian faith?

Can such a position be defended using the Bible alone?

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it,
and gave it to them, saying,
"This is my body given for you;
do this in remembrance of me."

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptising them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

'This is essential reading if you want to be an informed Salvationist regarding the Army and the sacraments.'

*****This book was given a five-star (exceptional) rating*****

In his foreword, General Shaw Clifton says, 'Every Christian church denomination recognises the need to restate and re-teach its doctrinal truths afresh to every generation of believers.

'The Salvation Army is no exception.

'The captain's hope has been to articulate the Army's position from a Scriptural viewpoint. He has done so admirably.

'My prayer is that this book will be used of God to help a new generation of Salvationists understand, and when called upon to do so, explain the Army's position...'

The book, only 55 pages in total, is designed simply, with short chapters. Do not be concerned if you lack a theological qualification. Captain Layton has been able to explain complex concepts in understandable language.

As the title indicates, the captain has based his discussion and findings only on the Bible and has done so precisely and incisively.

His logical approach - a) commencing with why he has written the book, b) acknowledging the sacraments can be a divisive issue and c) trying to help the reader strip away any past information or viewpoints that will hinder this Bible-centred approach - provides an excellent foundation for the 'meat' of the book.

This is essential reading if you want to be an informed Salvationist regarding the Army and the sacraments.
